ABOUT MATTHEW
Matthew is a Manchester based freelance conductor, educator and workshop leader working across the UK.
Sought after for his energetic and engaging style he has worked with choirs and singers for some of the country’s leading music organisations including the Hallé, Opera North, National Youth Choir, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, the Voices Foundation and Sing for Pleasure.
Matthew is the founder and artistic director of Manchester Vocal Ensemble as well as being the principal conductor of the Hallé Youth Training Choir, Sale Youth Choirs and N-Choir.
Alongside this, he currently holds the position as assistant director of the Hallé Youth Choir and has worked with many outstanding youth music organisations including the Hallé Children’s Choir and the Opera North Youth Ensembles.
A specialist in music education and accessibility, Matthew has led the choral activity on Opera North's award winning In Harmony programme as well as working closely with The Voices Foundation as a choral and musicianship expert, training music leaders across the UK.
He is passionate about accessibility in music and theatre and leads many community based projects for Opera North and the Hallé with a diverse range of groups.
Matthew is an experienced workshop leader and has devised and delivered a multitude of workshops for choirs, workplace choirs, theatre and opera companies as well as facilitating large scale singing events.
